It was during one of her trips to India in 2012 that Barbara came across the old Indian blankets. She immediately saw that something very beautiful could come of this. Together with her first Indian clothing producer, Mr. Kapur, she started the first antic collection. A collection consisting of an antic jacket and an antic bag. All unique, upcycled and with their own story. Now, 11 years later, we look back with passion to the time when we started this. We are super proud that the antic styles are still part of the by-bar collection.

Het was tijdens één van haar reizen in India in 2012 dat Barbara de oude Indiase blankets tegen kwam. Meteen zag ze dat hier iets heel moois zou kunnen ontstaan. Samen met haar eerste Indiase kleding producent Mr Kapur, is ze begonnen aan de eerste old is new collectie. Een collectie bestaande uit een antic jacket en een antic bag. Allemaal uniek, upcycled en met een eigen verhaal. Nu, 11 jaar verder, kijken we vol passie terug naar die tijd dat we hiermee begonnen zijn en zijn we super trots dat de old is new collectie nog steeds deel uitmaakt van de by-bar collectie.
“During my travels in India, I was inspired by my love for old Indian quilts.” In 2012, we started developing the first bag and jacket from these beautiful and old Indian blankets. This was the start of the first ‘antic’ collection. How wonderful it is to see that now, 11 years later, we have already made so many people happy with their own unique upcycled antic piece!
The blankets we use are carefully selected. “Every trip to India, I spent at least a whole day choosing the right blankets, a wildly beautiful but time-consuming process. For this reason, we can only produce a limited edition at a time.”
‘‘Tijdens mijn reizen in India ben ik geïnspireerd geraakt door mijn liefde voor oude Indiase quilts’’. In 2012 zijn we begonnen met het ontwikkelen van de eerste tas en jacket van deze mooie en oude Indiase blankets. Dit was de start van de eerste ‘old is new’ collectie. Hoe mooi is het om te zien dat nu, 11 jaar later, we al zoveel mensen blij hebben gemaakt met hun eigen unique upcycled antic piece!
De blankets die we gebruiken worden zorgvuldig uitgezocht. “Elke reis naar India besteedde ik minimaal één hele dag aan het kiezen van de juiste blankets, een waanzinnig mooi maar tijdrovend proces. Om deze reden kunnen we altijd maar een beperkte oplage tegelijk produceren”.
The original blankets are made up of two pieces of fabric stitched together with a thin filling in between. Each blanket is unique, with its own color and print on each side. We have made the antic jackets reversible so that both sides can be worn.
De oorspronkelijke blankets bestaan uit twee tegen elkaar gestikte stukken stof waar een dunne vulling in zit. Iedere blanket is uniek en iedere kant van de blanket heeft zijn eigen kleur en print. We hebben de antic jackets reversible gemaakt zodat beide kanten draagbaar zijn.

The relationship with our suppliers is an important aspect for by-bar. From the beginning, we have been working closely with our dedicated partners. We visit our suppliers multiple times a year to work together on beautiful, high-quality products and a more sustainable future. We take the time to build loving, trusting, and respectful relationships with our partners. We do this to improve together, further develop sustainability, and especially enjoy the success that we have created together.
De relatie met onze leveranciers is voor by-bar een belangrijk aspect. Vanaf het begin werken we nauw samen met onze toegewijde partners. We bezoeken onze leveranciers meerdere keren per jaar om samen te werken aan mooie kwalitatieve producten en een duurzamere toekomst. We nemen de tijd om liefdevolle, vertrouwde en respectvolle relaties te bouwen met onze partners. Dit doen we om samen te kunnen verbeteren, duurzaamheid verder uit te bouwen en vooral te genieten van het succes wat we samen hebben gecreëerd.
We have been upcycling these beautiful Indian blankets, which have been worn by Indian women for generations, together with our partner from the beginning of this journey. The Indian blankets are carefully and with great love chosen by Barbara and her team before they are upcycled into a new by-bar favorite. We put this love into the designs and quality, so that you can enjoy these unique styles every season.

We upcyclen samen met onze partner vanaf het begin van deze journey, deze prachtige Indiase blankets, die generaties lang door Indiase vrouwen worden gedragen. De Indiase blankets worden zorgvuldig en met veel liefde door Barbara en haar team gekozen voordat ze in een nieuwe by-bar favorite worden geupcycled. Deze liefde stoppen we in de designs en kwaliteit, zodat je seizoen na seizoen kunt genieten van deze unieke styles.
